FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
What else do I need in addition to this control unit?

This control unit provides the switching pulse for the motor drive, which switches the ECOTAP® VPD® on-load tap changer. These three elements turn a standard distribution transformer into a controllable transformer that can maintain the voltage within a defined voltage range. The control units can be used for all ECOTAP® VPD® on-load tap changers, including the single-phase versions.

What is the difference between the ‘Standard’ and ‘e.on’ options?

Both versions have the same functionalities. However, the ‘e.on’ version has different MODBUS settings for the applications of this distribution network operator.

What can I do with the MODBUS RTU interface?

This interface allows the control unit to be connected to an additional “Control PRO” unit or to a gateway including a MODBUS converter for remote communication. This enables data to be read out or switching commands to be issued externally. For commissioning, the control unit can also be connected to a laptop, from which data can be uploaded.

Can I replace old control units with new ones?

Yes, all control units supplied with the ECOTAP® VPD® load tap changer to date can be easily replaced with a new control unit. The dimensions are identical, as are the dimensions of all three variants.
