FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Could ECOSENSE® ACTIVE PART be used with synthetic and natural ester oils?

The material used is chemically stable against synthetic and natural ester oils. However, the calibration stored in the device is only tested and valid for mineral oils. There is currently no explicit calibration available for synthetic and natural ester oils.

Does ECOSENSE® ACTIVE PART need to be calibrated regularly?

No. The sensor is calibrated at the factory. However, due to operating and environmental conditions, it may be useful to adjust the sensor using reference data from a laboratory. This field calibration leads to a reduction in the measurement uncertainty.

Does the sensor require additional operating resources?

No. Apart from a power supply, no other additional equipment is required.

Does the sensor require regular maintenance?

No. The sensor is maintenance-free and does not require regular servicing or the regular replacement of consumables.

Can the sensor also be used at altitudes above 2000 m?

Yes. The sensor can be used up to an altitude of 4000 m.

Which communication protocols does the sensor provide?

The sensor communicates via a digital RS485 interface with a Modbus RTU protocol. If the sensor is integrated into the ETOS transformer monitoring system, other protocols such as IEC 61850 and DNP3 can be made available. If the sensor is operated without ETOS, additional protocols such as IEC 61850 and DNP3 can be made available with the aid of an additional protocol converter.

Can the sensor also be operated if the sensor head cannot be placed directly in the transformer tank?

Yes. The sensor head can also be installed up to 20 cm back from the transformer tank (recessed installation). This has no negative effect on the operation of the sensor. Installations at a greater distance from the transformer tank than 20 cm must be clarified with MR in advance.

How large is the sensor's data memory?

The storage capacity is sufficient for a data volume of approx. 10 years.

Can the sensor also be used offshore?

No. An offshore version of ECOSENSE® ACTIVE PART is not available. There is an offshore version of the MSENSE DGA 2/3. Please contact us and we will be happy to put you in touch with an expert.
