FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Which installation positions are possible at the transformer?

There are three ways of installing the ECOTAP® VPD® III 30D-24 :
1. Installation horizontally below the transformer cover.
2. Installation horizontally on the transformer side wall.
3. Installation vertically on the transformer side wall.

What variants of the ECOTAP® VPD® III 30D-24 are available?

The only variance in the ECOTAP® VPD® III 30D-24 lies in the transition resistors, which depend on the step voltage and the rated current. The specific variant required must be determined before shipment.

How is the ECOTAP® VPD® connected to the transformer’s tap winding?

The connection contacts of the ECOTAP® VPD® III 30D-24 must be connected to the tap winding connecting leads and on-load tap-changer take-off leads by crimping, ensuring they are not subject to mechanical stress.

What must be considered when drying the transformer?

The motor drive and control unit must not be dried. During the drying process, the temperature should not exceed 135 °C.

Is communication available?

ECOTAP® VPD® has signaling contacts for error and ready. Beyond these signals communication is available via MODBUS RTU, further communication options are available.

How long does a tap-change take?

A switching operation takes approx. 420 milli-seconds. All three seconds an operation can be initiated.

Do the screws on the motor drive always need to be tightened securely?

As soon as the transformer is exposed to the elements, even for a short time, the motor drive should be placed on the sealing module and secured with the seven supplied M6 screws at a torque of 6 Nm. This hast o be done to to ensure IP66 protection.
